ATTENTION PARENTS:
New research published in Pediatrics has identified a link between heavy TV watching early in life and attention problems later. Those who watched more than two hours, and particularly those who watched more than three hours, of television per day during childhood had above-average symptoms of attention problems in adolescence. The study found a 40% increase in such problems among kids who were heavy TV viewers. The study speculates that one reason for the link between early TV viewing and attention-deficit problems later is that TV’s fast-moving images over-stimulate youngsters’ developing brains and make real life seem boring. Hence, children who watch a lot of television may become less tolerant of slower-paced and more mundane tasks, such as school work.” full article
